Last week we rode the roller-coaster of life.  We started with a birthday, said goodbye to a family member in the middle and finished with another birthday.  This is a busy time of year for birthdays and anniversaries for us.  Despite the sadness this week, it was very important to make Mrs Albertine's 7th birthday a happy one.  Perhaps we went overboard to compensate for the week we've had.  The "Party with a few friends" expanded to fourteen.  And dinner at our local, which seemed like such a good idea earlier in the week, descended into an evening of managing over-tired and emotional children while we frantically gulped down the red.

Happy birthday my sweet girl.
And the best part?  No more booster seat!  Hooray!!

Letting go

Back in 1997, the MOTH and I became a family of four with Kali and Vicar.  We lavished them with love and attention.  Sure, they took a bit of a backseat when the children began to arrive, but they took it all in their stride and didn't hold it against us.

Only six months ago we farewelled Kali. And now we are heartbroken at the loss of Vicar.  Words cannot explain how these two enriched our lives and how drained we feel right now while the emotions are raw.  I know in time we will become accustomed to their absence.  Right now, I just wish I could scoop them up and hold them tight.

This weekend

This weekend you'll find me here -
But between now and then there's a bit of birthday action happening in this household. I just hope I can pull it off to the satisfaction of a bunch of 7 year olds! And for some really odd reason I can only create this post in the html view, so the formatting is all over the shop. I have obviously reached the limits of my technological abilities. Argh!!!!
